UAE interested in investing in the project

The UAE is interested in investing in a project for the development of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) together with Rosatom.
The issue is being worked out, said the trade representative of the Russian Federation in the UAE A. Terekhin in an interview with RIA Novosti. According to the trade representative, one of the vivid examples of the interest of the Emirates side is the investment of DPWorld within the framework of cooperation with the state corporation Rosatom.
A. Terekhin noted that from the point of view of the business approach, the project seems to the company to be extremely interesting and they are very actively involved in the coordination of this issue.

Recall that for the first time in the past 7 years, the process of ice formation in certain areas of the water area of the Northern Sea Route began 2 weeks earlier.
Since the beginning of November 2021, in some areas, movement without icebreaker assistance has become impossible, which is why more than 20 vessels could not move independently in the water area of the NSR.

L. Khazanov, Ph.D. in Economics, who himself worked in Artik, believes that for stable navigation along the NSR it is necessary to solve several important tasks:

provide modern cartography with an accuracy of at least 500 m (possibly on a larger scale) and its constant updating;

have the most detailed information about the seabed topography and depths for the safe movement of ships;

to establish systematic monitoring using space satellites throughout the Russian Arctic to improve weather forecasting, dynamics of sea currents and ice conditions;

expand the network of ground-based meteorological stations;

equip all northern ports without exception in order to receive large-tonnage vessels, otherwise there will be difficulties with their loading and unloading in the harsh Arctic conditions;

to form a strong group of powerful icebreakers that overcome thick ice at a decent speed, otherwise the process of escorting dry cargo ships, oil tankers and gas carriers by them will be very slow.

The expert is sure that it is quite possible to build 30 icebreakers by 2030, the main thing is not to postpone their laying on the back burner.
In addition, L. Khazanov emphasizes that for these purposes it is necessary to ensure a stable progress of work on their construction and to agree in advance with metallurgical enterprises on the supply of rolled steel at fixed prices, otherwise its rise in price will lead to losses for shipyards even before the icebreakers are launched and may even lead to the suspension of construction.

However, we wrote to Neftegaz.ru about the unprofitability of this venture earlier.
Due to the underdevelopment of this area, there are many questions about the quality and delivery time of nuclear powered ships.
The scale of Atomflot’s claims against Baltiyskiy Zavod (part of USC) exceeded the planned profit by 5 times.

Recall that the Baltic Shipyard, by order of Rosatomflot, is building 5 serial vessels of project 22220, 2 of which were delivered to the customer at the end of 2021.
On December 20, 2021, the Arctic started its first voyage in an easterly direction.
On January 1, 2022, the nuclear-powered icebreaker completed the pilotage of the motor ships Yuri Arshenevsky and Engineer Trubin with the assistance of the diesel-electric icebreaker Captain Dranitsyn.
The ships delivered general cargo to Chukotka for companies implementing investment projects in the region.

The universal nuclear icebreaker for the first time passed to the water area of the port of Pevek.
According to the director of Atomflot M. Kashka,

the vessel has confirmed compliance with the design characteristics of icebreaking capacity.

This caravan escort is a good experience of operating a universal nuclear icebreaker.

The crew of the nuclear-powered ship learned in practice the capabilities of the vessel.

The headquarters of the company’s marine operations will study the results of the work for further planning of activities.

However, Russian-UAE cooperation and interaction is also developing in such areas as the aviation and automotive industries, transport engineering and the IT sector.
In terms of digital development, Gazprom signed a memorandum with AIQ (a joint venture between ADNOC and Group 42).

The partners will be engaged in the creation and commercialization of digital solutions for the fuel and energy complex.
