Russia is interested in exporting to the Qatar market

Russia is preparing to enter the Qatar market with its agricultural products, the correspondent of KazakhZerno.kz reports, citing the negotiations between the Rosselkhoznadzor and representatives of the industry department of this Middle Eastern state.
Currently, Qatar has allowed Russian exporters to import meat products, but so far these volumes are very small. Last year it was only 450 tons, mainly poultry meat, although a pilot batch of beef was also delivered. Shipments to Qatar were carried out by 5 Russian suppliers. For comparison: for the whole of 2021, 38 thousand tons of meat products (all the same poultry) were exported to all the states of the Persian Gulf (and these are Bahrain, Kuwait, the Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the already mentioned Qatar).
Nevertheless, Russia can potentially supply Qatar with a wide range of products: 9 certificates were previously approved for various agricultural products, including milk, egg products and canned meat.
Based on these prospects, the Russian side asked the Qatari colleagues to include in the register of exporters 16 Russian companies that are ready to supply meat and meat products.
The Rosselkhoznadzor said that Qatar does not have its own agricultural complex, so all food is imported, its main supplier is Saudi Arabia. One of the key points for the certification of meat products is the Halal certificate.
The parties agreed to prepare a memorandum on the supply of livestock products from the Russian Federation to Qatar and agree on all procedures for monitoring the safety of agricultural products.
