UAE and Russia sign “Declaration of Intent” in the energy sector
ABU DHABI, November 16, 2021 (WAM) – The UAE and the Russian Federation have signed a Declaration of Intent, which envisages the creation of a joint task force that will work to develop cooperation between the two countries in the energy sectors, in particular in the field of clean energy.
The announcement aims to meet the requirements of sustainable development, as well as the Paris Agreement on climate change, as both countries are pioneers in environmental conservation and global focal points for the green economy.
The two countries agreed to work together in the hydrogen sector to increase clean energy production.
The signing took place during a joint meeting of the two countries at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference “ADIPEC 2021” chaired by the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Oil Affairs Sharif Salim Al Olam and Deputy Energy Minister of the Russian Federation Pavel Sorokin, in which also attended by government officials and representatives of the private sector.
During the meeting, the teams held a discussion on the topic “Digital technologies in the oil and gas sector”, dedicated to the issues of scientific exchange, specialized training seminars and the formation of mutual visits of delegations.
Sharif Al Olama praised the relations between the two countries, which have developed significantly in recent years thanks to the support of wise leadership and mutual respect, trust and common interests.
He stressed that the signing is part of a historic partnership between the UAE and Russia in all sectors, including a strong partnership in the energy sector.
“A partnership like this could help drive clean energy plans and help both countries develop projects and initiatives that support the Paris Agreement on climate change,” Al Olama said.
He invited Russian companies and businesses to explore investment opportunities and cooperation with the UAE in the energy, oil and gas sectors.
Pavel Sorokin said that the “Declaration of Intent” reflects the strength of bilateral economic relations between the two countries, and noted that Russia expects to expand cooperation with the UAE at all levels, especially in the energy sector.
Within this framework, cooperation will focus on the development of artificial intelligence and digital services, the exchange of experiences and best practices in the clean energy sector, such as the use of hydrogen energy, and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
