Yandex plans to supply courier robots to the UAE
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority held the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport 2021 to select the best self-driving technology developers for the city. The Russian company Yandex also took part in it, writes The National.
At the Gitex Information Technology Exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Center, IT companies showcased delivery robots. One of the exhibitors was a robot courier from Russia. Sergey Kirillov, head of business development at Yandex, said the company wants to start supplying them to Dubai.
“We conducted an assessment that showed that a third of the city is suitable for such robots,” Kirillov said. According to him, an unmanned delivery vehicle is 15-20% cheaper than a courier.
Today they deliver about 500 orders per day in Russia and the USA. Autonomous delivery vehicles navigate traffic lights and intersections, drive at a speed of 8 km / h in pedestrian zones, and accelerate on open roads.
Yandex robots deliver orders from the American Grubhub on the Ohio State University campus, as well as in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Formerly Inc. told that Yandex plans to provide services of its unmanned rovers for other competing companies. At the end of March, the company announced plans to test its courier robots in the United States, Israel and South Korea.
